Kansas City International Airport Passenger Traffic Increases Three Percent in July

The City of Kansas City, Mo., Aviation Department reports that 1,124,182 passengers arrived and departed through Kansas City International Airport’s gates in July, a 2.7 percent increase from July 2017. Passenger boardings were up 2.9 percent, with a total of 565,519 boarded. For the year to date, total passengers in and out total 6,858,680, up 2.5 percent. Year-to-date passenger boardings are 3,444,254, up 2.7 percent.

"For 49 of the last 50 months, our travelers have continued to travel at increasing rates,” said Pat Klein, Kansas City director of aviation. “We appreciate the airlines for the increase in service and size of planes, and the fact that our customers are taking advantage of the travel opportunities in front of them. We are hopeful that the trend continues throughout the rest of 2018.”

Air cargo tonnages, which consist of both freight and mail transported by air, for all carriers at KCI were up 11.1 percent in July with a total of 17 million pounds handled. Year to date, 121 million pounds have been handled, up 4.2 percent. Air freight handled at KCI during July amounted to 16.4 million pounds, which represents a year-over-year increase of 13.2 percent. Year to date, air freight is up 5.2 percent with a total of 117 million pounds handled. Air mail for July was down 27 percent from July 2017 with 585,507 pounds handled. Air mail is down 17.2 percent year to date with 4.3 million pounds handled.

The number of peak-day scheduled aircraft departures for July 2018 was 180. Service was offered to 51 nonstop markets. There was an average of 43,145 arriving and departing seats available in the market each day. The all-cargo carriers reported 5 daily departures for July.
