The City of Kansas City, Mo., Aviation Department reports that 951,602 passengers arrived and departed through Kansas City International Airport’s gates in September, a four percent increase from September 2017. Passenger boardings were up 4.1 percent, with a total of 477,339 boarded. For the year to date, total passengers in and out total 8,852,241, up 2.7 percent. Year-to-date passenger boardings are 4,430,552, up 2.8 percent.
“September’s historic result is the culmination of 12 consecutive months of year-over-year gains at Kansas City International Airport,” said Pat Klein, Kansas City director of aviation. “With the continued expansion of service by our airline partners and construction of a new single terminal set to kick off soon, Kansas City’s air travel future is extremely bright.”
Air cargo tonnages, which consist of both freight and mail transported by air, for all carriers at KCI were down one percent in September with a total of 17.3 million pounds handled. Year to date, 157.3 million pounds have been handled, up 3.1 percent. Air freight handled at KCI during September amounted to 16.8 million pounds, which is unchanged year-over-year. Year to date, air freight is up 4.2 percent with a total of 152 million pounds handled. Air mail for September was down 33 percent from September 2017 with 479,301 pounds handled. Air mail is down 20.8 percent year to date with 5.4 million pounds handled.
The number of peak-day scheduled aircraft departures for September 2018 was 174. Service was offered to 46 nonstop markets. There was an average of 41,886 arriving and departing seats available in the market each day. The all-cargo carriers reported five daily departures for September.
