American Airlines Announces New Nonstop Service from Kansas City International Airport to Austin

American Airlines announced that the carrier will add nonstop air service from Kansas City International Airport (MCI) to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) in Austin, Texas. Beginning September 8, American will operate one daily flight each way and will add a second round trip November 2, all with Embraer E175 regional jets. Austin the third most popular Texas destination from Kansas City. 

The announcement comes as passenger numbers are on the increase as more and more Americans become vaccinated. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention just announced new guidelines for vaccinated people, stating that fully vaccinated people do not need to get COVID tests before or after domestic travel, and fully vaccinated people do not need self-quarantine after domestic travel. 

“We’re eager to add new service from Kansas City to Austin, giving local customers another choice for their travel plans,” said Brian Znotins, American Airlines Vice President of Network Planning. “We look forward to welcoming more Kansas City customers back to travel with American to experience all that Austin has to offer, as well as further connecting them to our global network.” 

“We are thankful that American is adding new nonstop service to Austin,” said Pat Klein, director of Kansas City’s Aviation Department. Kansas City travelers will soon have more travel options to enjoy the Texas capitol’s outstanding food, great live music venues, and culture.”
