KCI Airport Terminal B Roadwork to Occur Again This Weekend

Delta and Southwest Customers Urged to Allow Extra Time

Nearing completion is the $2.8 million project on the Terminal B roadway system, medians, bus shelters and garage pedestrian tunnels at Kansas City International Airport. Delta Air Lines and Southwest Airlines operate from Terminal B. Milling and paving requires the closure of traffic lanes and access to some areas of the terminal curb and commercial medians. At times traffic may be congested. KCI Airport users are urged to allow extra time and patience when using the airport during this time. Signs, Airport Police and other personnel will be on hand to aid and direct customers.

To minimize inconvenience to customers, this work was scheduled to be done in large sections during off-peak time Saturday July 24 and July 31. Last weekend, contractors closed off traffic lanes and started the work. On Saturday, thunderstorms moved into the area and forced the work to stop. This weekend contractors will try to finish last weekend's work and accomplish this weekend's work. If necessary, they may conduct this work next week between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. or Saturday August 7 or to minimize customer inconvenience.

During construction contractors will close either the three commercial lanes closest to the garage or all three traffic lanes along the terminal curb. When the commercial lanes and median are closed limos and shuttle buses will be added to the regular mix of vehicles at the terminal curb, so there could be heavy congestion at the curb. When the terminal lanes are closed there will be no direct curb access Customers may be picked up and dropped at other areas at the terminal.

Related construction in Terminal A will occur in 2011 and work in Terminal C will be conducted as needed.
