KCI Airport reports March traffic


The City of Kansas City, Mo., Aviation Department reports that the Kansas City International Airport recorded 805,239 passengers arriving and departing through its gates in March, which represents a decrease of 15.8 percent from March 2008. Passenger boardings at KCI were down 18.5 percent, with a total of 401,097 during March. For the year to date, boardings at KCI totaled 1,057,860, a decrease of 19.5 percent from the same period last year.

The number of peak-day scheduled aircraft departures for March was 198. Service was offered to 50 nonstop markets. There was an average of 37,148 arriving and departing seats available in the market each day, down 21.1 percent from last year.

KCI recorded air cargo tonnages for the carriers, which consist of both freight and mail transported by air, were down 21.5 percent in March. For the year to date, air cargo at KCI is down 22.7 percent from the same period last year. Air freight handled at KCI during March amounted to over 16 million pounds, which represents a year over year decrease of 20.7 percent. Air mail for March was down 35.0 percent from March 2008. The all-cargo carriers reported 5 daily departures for March.
