Fourth Open House to Highlight KCI Airport Master Plan and KCI Area Plan

KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI – In accordance with Federal Aviation Administration regulations, the Kansas City Aviation Department will host a fourth Open House regarding two of three concurrent KCI Airport studies Thursday, June 19, 2008 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Ambassador Building (former Farmland headquarters), 12200 Ambassador Drive, Kansas City, Missouri, just east of the airport and I-29.

The main focus of this session will be to provide attendees with summary results of two of the three ongoing Airport Planning studies – the Airport Master Plan and the KCI Area Land Use Plan. Project team members will give identical brief presentations regarding these two studies at 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. A separate Public Hearing for the Noise Compatibility Study will be held in late July or early August.

The informal format will allow the public to listen to the presentations, ask questions of the project team members, view exhibits, and receive handout materials that provide further details on the studies.

The Airport Master Plan’s major tasks are to examine existing and future facility requirements at KCI, and provide a plan for growth and development of the airport over the next 20 years. The KCI Area Plan’s goal is to explore land use and growth issues in the KCI area, and provide a plan that attempts to balance needs of the airport, residents and business communities.

City Manager Wayne Cauthen said, “These plans will be important tools the City will use to identify aviation issues and needs, land use, transportation issues, development guidelines, recommendations and priorities for public investment, stormwater management and environmental stewardship for the project area.”

The City has contracted with the airport planning firm of Landrum and Brown, Inc. to complete the three studies.
