KCI Airport Road Work to Begin

KANSAS CITY, June 10, 2008 – On June 11, weather permitting, construction will begin on an $870,000 roadway rehabilitation project at Kansas City International Airport. The work will involve the five-lane International Circle ring road among the three terminals and a short section of Brasilia Avenue away from the terminals. The work is scheduled to be completed July 27.

The significant work will involve International Circle from the Terminal C exit to Cookingham Drive, the main airport entrance road, and part of Cookingham Drive outbound from International Circle to the off-ramp of Paris Street.

To minimize customer inconvenience on International Circle, most of the work will be conducted overnight between 11:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained at all times during daytime hours with a minimum of one lane of traffic will be open between 11:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. The Brasilia construction will require closure of the section and a detour. This roadway is generally used as a vendor and employee service road.

The work is needed to address the deterioration of the roads due mostly to road salt used during wintry weather and heavy traffic. The project will preserve the design life of KCI’s roadway system. After the work’s completion the roads will have smoother driving surfaces and there will be a reduced need for maintenance work.

The Kansas City Airport System is an Enterprise Fund Department of the City of Kansas City, Missouri, and is supported wholly by airport user charges. No general tax fund revenues are used for the administration, promotion, operation or maintenance of the airports in the system. Visit www.flykci.com.
