KCI Airport Passenger Traffic Up 2.9 Percent in February

KANSAS CITY, MO., March 28, 2008 – Kansas City International Airport (KCI) recorded 770,928 passengers arriving and departing through its gates in February, which represents an increase of 2.9 percent from February 2007. Passenger boardings at KCI were up 3.3 percent, totaling 399,424 during February. For the year to date, boardings at KCI totaled 1,579,253, an increase of 3.8 percent from the same period last year.

“This marks the busiest February at KCI in six years,” said Director of Aviation Mark VanLoh. “Passengers from the four state area and beyond are flocking to Kansas City to take advantage of low fares and nonstop service. The number of peak-day scheduled aircraft departures in February was 262. Service was offered to 71 nonstop markets. There was an average of 46,085 arriving and departing seats available in the market each day.

KCI air cargo tonnages, which consist of freight and mail, were down 1.9 percent in February. For the year to date, air cargo at KCI is down 1.5 percent from the same period last year. Air freight handled at KCI during the month surpassed 20 million pounds, which represents a year over year increase of 0.3 percent. Air mail for February exceeded 1.1 million pounds, down 30.1 percent from February 2007. The all-cargo carriers reported eight daily departures for February.
