KCI Airport Passenger Traffic Up 4.6 Percent in January |
KANSAS CITY, MO., February 19, 2008 – Kansas City International Airport (KCI) recorded 808,325 passengers arriving and departing through its gates in January, which represents an increase of 4.6 percent from January 2007. Passenger boardings at KCI were up 7.4 percent, with a total of 422,477 during January.
“The new year is off to a remarkable start,” said Director of Aviation Mark VanLoh. "This impressive total passenger count exceeded that of January 2000, starting off the busiest year in the history of KCI. While it would be a stretch to assume the 2000 record of 11.9 million passengers will be surpassed this year, I am encouraged that passenger growth continues to outpace capacity.”
The number of peak-day scheduled aircraft departures for January was 262. Service was offered to 71 nonstop markets. There was an average of 46,180 arriving and departing seats available in the market each day, an increase of 3.6 percent from last year.
KCI recorded air cargo tonnages for the carriers, which consist of both freight and mail transported by air, were down 1.1 percent in January. Air freight handled at KCI during January amounted to over 21 million pounds, which represents a year over year increase of 1.3 percent. Air mail for January exceeded 1.2 million pounds, down 31.0 percent from January 2007. The all-cargo carriers reported 8 daily departures for January.
KCI’s Ground Transportation Index in January recorded 16.8 million pounds processed at the airport. The index measures air cargo and time-definite products carried by ground modes of transport.
